My American Idol

Carrie Underwood performing at the World Arena...

From the first time I heard Carrie Underwood sing, I was hooked.  I knew that this girl would be a superstar in no time.  Her story really spoke to my heart, having grown up very poor on a farm, too.  I always dreamed I would be a famous singer, so I really took to her.  Her voice is as pure as a sheet of silk.  When she first began, she seemed a bit awkward on stage, and didn’t really know how to move around.  When I see her in concert now, she commands the stage like she has been doing this for decades.  She is a real inspiration to me.

Fire extinguishers – a must for every home

No matter how well setup and safe your household is you never know when a fire may breakout. An electrical surge, a cooking fire, a knocked over candle and many other things could cause fire to consume your house in a matter of minutes. Having a good knowledge of portable AFFF fire extinguishers as well as what situations to use them in May not only save your home, but possibly the lives of your family and pets. There are different classes of fire extinguishers for liquid, solids, oils and gases so which one is appropriate for which fire is something that everybody must know.

My Prized Possession

When I think about things that are valuable to me, my mind first goes to my jewelry and my car.  However, when I really think about it, those things can all be replaced.  The most valuable thing I have in my life is my circle of friends.  They help me through everything, as I do with them.  I struggled to make friends in this city for a long time.  I now have an amazing group of people that offer me sound advice, a shoulder to cry on, a friend to go out with on a Tuesday night when I have had a bad day at work, or just someone to have dinner with.  I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Sense of Responsibility

When I think about all of the jobs I have had over the past few decades, my first job stands out as the best.  I worked for the phone company in the small Alabama town I grew up in.  The job itself was not glamorous by any means.  I was the one you reached when you dialed 411, or when you had to make a collect phone call.  The best part of that job was the responsibility and sense of accomplishment felt by earning my very own money.  I no longer had to rely on my parents every time I wanted something.

Culture and Class

None of my friends would probably consider me to be a cultured individual.  However, I often attend events that would surprise them all.  I recently went to a performance of Mozart’s Trilogy: The Ballet, at an outdoor theater.  I went with a small group of friends and we sat on the hill, drank wine, ate cheese and talked about the immense beauty the dancers exhibited.  The show had me in tears toward the end as Mozart takes his final breath and leaves his lovers to mourn.  The performance really spoke to me, and was definitely more fulfilling than my typical Friday night out at the bars.

A Delicious Meal

I am not much of a cook, but when I get in the kitchen, I often surprise myself with my culinary skills.   Last night, I made a delicious pan fried chicken.  I had never attempted this before, but I had seen my mom do it on many occasions.  I made a bit of a mess with the flour, which was to be expected.  For sides, I made a fettuccine alfredo with homemade sauce, garlic and saffron smashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli with a port wine reduction mixed with cheese sauce smothering it the deep green florets.  Maybe I should cook more often.

A Little About Me

I grew up in a small town in Alabama, along the Gulf Coast.  My family was very poor, and none of them were college educated.  I was the first in my family to graduate from college.  I always knew, as a child, that I was destined for bigger and better things than that one horse town.  After graduating college, I moved to Dallas, Texas and began working at one of the top design firms in the nation.  Now, I send money back to my parents as a thank you for supporting me through college.   I am very blessed to have my life, and I would never forget where I came from.

Weekend Getaway

NEW ORLEANS - FEBRUARY 16: Revelers walk along...

This past weekend, I went to New Orleans for my birthday.  I stayed in a quaint hotel right outside the French Quarter.  Everywhere I went was within a brief 20 minute walk.  I visited several bars and restaurants during my 4 day stay.  My days were spent walking down Bourbon Street, drinking 44oz frozen daiquiris, and popping my head into various shops full of traditional New Orleans themed items.  I purchased a beautiful orange feathered Mardi Gras mask that I wore out on my birthday night and it was a huge hit.  I don’t think I bought a single drink all night.

Being a new mom

I have been a mom for only seven weeks now, but this new little addition to our lives has taught me so much. I have a love for our little girl that I never dreamed was possible. She has taught me what selflessness and sacrifice truly mean, as well as reminded me of pure joy and innocence. There is nothing more special than seeing her smile and nothing more fulfilling than caring for her needs and seeing her grow healthy and strong. She has taught me that getting the laundry done is not as important as spending time with family and that naps are always better than catching my favorite show!

Fire Safety Measures

Fire Safety is precautions taken to reduce or prevent fire accidents that can result in death, injury or that also can damage properties. Fire Safety is something that should be taken care of before constructing building or houses. Certain fire safety policies are maintaining fire exits, placing fire extinguishers in easily accessible place, maintaining fire alarm settings, prohibiting flammable materials in certain areas etc. Lots of fire safety equipments are available in market these days. Some of them are Fire Alarms, Fire Detectors, standard automatic fire extinguisher, Fire Sensors, Smoke Sensors, Fire Sprinklers, Fire Blankets, Fire Dampers, Fire Siren and Water Sprinklers.
