What I Cherish

My grandson means more to me than I could have guessed. While I wanted to babysit with him, I did not realize what a little treasure he is. He is delightful and so entertaining. I love to watch his wonder at seeing something new, such as our cat. My husband is my best friend and as we get older, I realize we may not have much time left together. I am thankful for every day I have with him. He is loyal, a hard worker, and loves his family. We know each other well after 32 years together, but there is still more to discover about each other.

Grease and electrical fires

It is highly important for an individual to make sure that he or she has taken the proper measures to ensure their survival in the event of a fire. First, make sure there are working smoke detectors in several strategic locations around the home and that the batteries are fresh. Second, ensure that there is at least one large automatic fire extinguisher per floor of the building. Automatic fire extinguishers are of the utmost importance since some fires, like grease and electrical fires, cannot be put out with water alone. Make sure all inhabitants of the home know emergency procedures like what exits to use and where to meet up. Make sure all young children know the address of the home and how to call for emergency help. Fires are the fifth leading cause of unintentional deaths every year. Make sure your family is not one of them by practicing these simple steps.

Happy Holidays

My family loves my traditional Christmas cookies, so I will spend an entire Saturday making cookies to share. We will go do church either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. The family will come to our house this year for a dinner, usually around 5 pm. I plan something simple this year, like chili and a salad. We have a new artificial tree to put up this year. We will string it with lights, along with a lighted star that goes in a window. I try to find a few charities to gift at the end of the year, as well as an extra gift to our church.

Fun at Fifty

My husband and I play card games at least twice a week. When we get together with my family, we play the card game whist, or games such as Pictionary or Apples to Apples. I am hoping to cross country ski this Winter. But first, I need new skiis. I still like to play tennis. I walk outside to relax and to mentally review the last day. We do not care for parties or group activities outside of our family. I enjoy having an occasional lunch with an old friend sometimes. I love to read mysteries and non-fiction books. My new passion is crocheting.

Shopping is Calling My Name

Years ago I shopped for entertainment and to relieve anxiety. That is not a good habit, and it can become very costly. I never

let it get too expensive, but I certainly ended up with more stuff than I needed. Now I prefer to shop at Wal-Mart, get it done, and go home. I like that I can get almost everything I need in one place. But I still buy groceries at Cub grocery store, not at Wal-Mart. Most of my clothes come from Kohl’s or Wal-Mart. I absolutely hate to shop for shoes because I have wide feet. So I like JC Penney catalog for shoes.

Winter Wonderland

We live in a cold climate with snow. It is very beautiful outside now and that lifts my mood. Because the days are shorter in the Winter, it can be very dark by 6 pm. But with snow on the ground, the days are brighter and the nights are not quite as dark. While shoveling snow is good exercise, I can do without that. Driving in snow is fine as long as everyone takes their time and we all leave extra room between cars. I grew up with Christmas surrounded by snow. It just seems like it should be that way now.

My Day So Far

We bought a new car today! We have not bought a brand new one for over 10 years. I am so grateful that my husband has such a good job that we can afford to think about gas mileage. I also babysat my baby grandson today and he is delightful to take care of. My husband and I both have good health, and I plan to be around a very long time to enjoy the baby as he grows up. My parents are still living, and I had a nice phone conversation with my mother today.

Why Do “Motorcycle People” Talk So Much About Motorcycles

Lately I’ve been meeting a number of twenty-to-thirty-something guys who are really into motorcycles. They’re all well-educated guys with a variety of interests, but since they decided to get a motorcycle, they’ve become unbearably boring. They message you with links to bikes on Craigslist. Their once-interesting blogs feature recap after recap of inane details about the rides they take on their bikes and purchasing of bike parts. Every time they walk past a bike, they have to announce to the whole group the make and model of the specific bike, even if no one else knows anything about bikes. I just don’t understand the weird obsession.

San Francisco, Home Sweet Home

San Francisco: Golden Gate Bridge

The coolest thing about San Francisco is that it is truly unlike any other city in the world. If you were blindfolded and secretly dropped off here, you’d recognize the city as soon as you could open your eyes. The architecture is charming and the people are friendly. The hills, which I admittedly often complain about, offer beautiful vistas that make the trek worth the aching calves. You can sit in one of the many parks built into the hillsides and look out to see the ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, or the bay. Well, when it isn’t foggy or raining of course.

Fire is a good servant but a very bad master

So whenever we are using the fire we should take double care to keep the fire just as a servant and not a master. If the fire is going out of our control it is our duty to control it. The fire fighters are the heroes of the world. To control the fire the large foam fire extinguisher are very much used. To handle each type of fire several models of foam fire extinguishers are available in the market. The main foam fire extinguishers are carbon dioxide or foam emitting types. These models are safe and easy to use. Several models are portable types. For industrial and commercial purpose huge models are also available.
